Consider pairing it with the Veranda lattice stamped in muted tones in the background. Pair Joie Des Roses with our Le Courrier or Kindest Regards Stamps for a layered, collage effect. Opt for tone-on-tone stamping for a subtle watermark feel, or add contrast with a touch of black. Send your artwork details with ratio size break down, then we should quote you back soon. If you're just kicking off your creative journey, have no fear — our Product 101 pages are packed with straightforward techniques to set you up for success. We're thrilled to accompany you as you explore and create.

The Painted Heirloom

All beautifully intertwined in elegant swags, this design is a delight to behold. Do you want to brand your shirt and make it a marketing tool? In this process, we remove the tag from the shirt and replace it with a screen printed tag that has your logo on it. It makes the shirt recognizable 100% to your company. It changes it from ‘just a tee shirt’ to a marketing strategy. It makes you look like you are totally on top of things (which you are!).

Since we need to make transfers and then press them on it's a much slower process so it costs a bit more. Now burnish your transfer using the back side of the plastic carrier paper your transfer came on. You’ll rub it around quickly on the surface of your project with light pressure to ensure your transfer has a good bond on your surface. Once your project is entirely dry, apply your Joie Des Rose Transfer. Cut the transfer as needed and keep the scraps for covering any small mistakes or adding extra detail. Lynne uses additional motifs like butterflies from the IOD Entomology Transfer for additional flare and to cover up any “oopsies” you may encounter.

With a mom who dragged them to roadside junk piles and hole in the wall thrift stores, Josie Celio and Sally Griswold grew to love all things vintage and DIY, long before it was trendy. We know IOD transfers are an investment, but they are easily worth it when you can get this sort of mileage from one! Plus, you can rest easy knowing the quality of our transfers is top-notch, with minimal halos.

IOD transfers are quite versatile and can be stunning on large furniture pieces as well as DIY wall art, textiles, home accessories and decor! Use on walls, painted furniture, and other DIY projects to give a different feel. IOD Décor Transfers by Iron Orchid Designs are designed in scale and motif to be appropriate for decor.

IOD WINTERSONG WREATH Decor Transfer by Iron Orchid Designs

Lynne offers a variety of sizes for inspiration. Try something unconventional with Joie Des Roses. Instead of applying centered on your large furniture, use the transfer on opposite sides (flipped) for a fresh take on layout and composition.

We can remove the garments itchy tag and print your personalized inside tagless label. You can design it on our online design tool, or contact us if you need help designing your custom neck labels. Removing the tags and rebranding them is a lot of work, that's where we can help you. Prepare to be transported to a world of timeless beauty with May's Roses. Taken from an authentic vintage rose catalog cover, this classic sepia-toned design instantly captivated our hearts. Imagine adorning a vintage highboy with delicate age and distress, showcasing May's Roses amidst draping plants and greenery in a neutral French Farmhouse interior.

Minimum order per size label is 100 pieces and up. Don't let the modern allure limit your imagination. Elysium is equally stunning on slightly vintage pieces, adding a touch of cottage-centric charm. However you choose to use Elysium, it is destined to be the star of the show. With its beautiful lines, unapologetically feminine florals, versatile mix of warm and cool tones, Elysium offers the flexibility to enhance your furniture without limiting your decor options.

LEGO Minifigure Factory provides customizable figures for $12

design your own lego minifigure

You keep the bucket, and it includes a coupon for a free LEGO minifigure from our Minifig Maker table. Rebuild with thousands of LEGO® pieces to choose from, ensuring you’ll have those childhood LEGO® sets rebuilt in no time. Alongside just being able to select from all of the LEGO-made shirt designs, you’ll also be able to add some extra customizations to your figure. However, I suspect the accessories will be the primary draw for many people, as this android looks after an exclusive Spacebaby! These adorable additions to LEGO Space first appeared last year, in Collectable Minifigures Series 24, although the pink version presented here is new, matching Lenny from Benny's Space Squad. Some LEGO® sets contain small parts that are NOT suitable for, and may pose a hazard to, children under 3 years of age.

In fact, the studs and clips mean this backpack could be adapted for other minifigure types. It serves as an effective propulsion unit though, complete with a uniquely printed 2x3 tile on the back. Each minifigure stands on a printed base, featuring an attractive starfield pattern.

Kindly refrain from using prices on our online store for reference as corporate rates differ. Today, the LEGO Group is bringing its Minifigure Factory online, allowing builders to customize their own minifig. Taking the popular in-store experience and rolling it out as a beta to online shoppers, you can now build your own minifigure complete with custom torso designs and more. The reverse of the robot is unmistakably retro, recreating the tape recorder 1x2 tile available in numerous sets since 1990.

Custom Printed LEGO Danger Signs

Moreover, the battery symbol on the back looks perfect and the arms are nicely decorated too, with temperature and heartbeat monitors found on each wrist. The arms' trans-light blue colour certainly conveys the android's presumably futuristic origins and I like the calm facial expression as well, befitting a nurse. Unfortunately, the retro blaster from the original Space Hero does not return. Presumably, the mould is no longer in use, as the piece was actually manufactured in pearl gold for Killer Moth, so would not even have needed a new colour. However, the simpler blaster is a fine alternative and I love the robot dog, which features pink eyes and miniscule bolts around its mouth. The alien's friendly smile is charming and the character obviously appreciates Earth, based on his T-shirt.

design your own lego minifigure

LEGO® DUPLO® sets have larger pieces which are specially designed for children under 3. As a kid, I had cobbled together a version of “me” using parts from different sets, but it never looked exactly right (though I did have two lightsabers and a hoverboard, which is definitely just like the real me). With Minifigure Factory, I can make a more accurate Lego version of myself — and deck it out with robot decals.

Like the Imposter, I think this is a fantastic idea for a figure and the execution has proven equally impressive. As his name suggests, this character specialises in lifting heavy objects, alluding to the many magnetic cranes found in M-Tron sets. He therefore wears a large backpack with an attached claw, linked by a new flexible cable. This component seems relatively specialised, but could be ideal for adding mechanical detail and it looks fantastic with this minifigure. Of course, this series also presents homages to some notable Space subthemes from LEGO history, continuing a trend across various recent series of Collectable Minifigures. M-Tron, Ice Planet 2002 and Blacktron II are all represented, alongside a selection of original characters and those inspired by space archetypes.

As just the latest way for builders to craft their own characters, the new online LEGO Minifigure Factory experience is finally here. The Insectoids are just humanoid aliens who have disguised their ships as bugs to blend in on an alien world. The characters themselves are not bug-like at all and putting their logo or something on an actual bug would just be a cheap reference for the sake of a reference. The Galaxy Squad angle is much more appropriate for that figure.

The LEGO® Minifigure Factory

Similarly, the hair element underneath is new and features a hole for the antenna on top, with some nice texture around the back and sides. Viewing this figure from behind also reveals the rectangular door printed on its back, which removes any doubt regarding the true identity of the Imposter. My only nitpick is I wish the Earth and Moon were printed on the front of the costume. Reimagine with new sets by creating your own masterpiece straight from your imagination.

Create your own

However, the silver printing on the legs is not as opaque as it should be, so I would rather dual-moulded legs were used instead. The metallic chest armour looks splendid though, featuring sculpted muscles in the style of Classical Greek armour. Ice Planet 2002 is another iconic subtheme of Space, well known for introducing trans-neon orange and unique cold-weather astronauts. These astronauts have inspired the Ice Planet Explorer, which takes the same approach to modernising the original design as the M-Tron Powerlifter. The original colour scheme is preserved as far as possible, but the level of detail has increased.

The corrugated shape gives the impression of flexibility and I like the cylindrical wheels on the feet, even though they are static. The butler is equipped with a whisk and a saucepan, containing something in the process of being whipped. Come into the store wearing your costume between now and October 31 and take 10% off your LEGO® purchase!

I was able to get the codes to scan, but there was no database connected to them. I used a text list of the codes to cherry pick what should be every human suit, alien tourist, UFO, and Space Baby, plus some of the bugs and Orions. This is the first time I can recall having found so many before seeing a review posted. Despite its enormous potential, I was sceptical when rumours of Collectable Minifigures Series 26 - Space began to circulate. After all, there have already been various space-oriented Collectable Minifigures, so I questioned whether a dedicated series was necessary. Fortunately, the designers have come up with some exceptional ideas, so the range feels innovative.

The printed bolts are welcome and continue onto the arms and the head, with the latter encased in a spherical trans-bright green helmet. This component distorts the head underneath, giving the Robot Butler a completely unique appearance. By contrast, the Flying Saucer Costume Fan lacks any accessories, but his unique headgear more than makes up for that. A neck attachment is ingeniously used as the actual flying saucer, with a trans-clear 2x2x2 dome on top, so the minifigure's head forms the alien riding inside!

Furthermore, this figure comes equipped with a camera and a dark azure backpack, which are lovely accessories, although I think a printed map with directions to Earth could have been fun as well. A mech disguise is not the only way for aliens to explore Earth, however, as the Alien Tourist demonstrates. This alien is instead hiding in plain sight and features a colourful Hawaiian shirt, decorated with leaves and stars. This pattern continues across the dual-moulded arms and the legs are dual-moulded too, forming shorts. Fill one of our Halloween pails with LEGO® bricks for just $12.

There are hundreds of different designs and parts to choose from to make THE perfect character. We can make your friends, family or just about anybody into a personalised LEGO figure! You can customise your character to make the perfect figure by changing aspects like the face, body, legs and more! Once you have all this in mind, head to our Create Your Own Minifig page, enter your requirements, and we will do the rest!

Kato remains a destination for its elegant, Taiwanese-influenced tasting menus. Reservations are hard to score, plus there’s a $275 price tag ($170 for the bar tasting menu) for dishes like A5 strip loin grilled and served with potatoes, black garlic, and braised tendon in a beautiful, understated dining room. Given its recent ascension back to the top of the Los Angeles Times “101 Best Restaurants” list and its continued Michelin star rating, it’s clear the critics have anointed Kato as one of the best places to eat in the city. Maison Kasai operates as one of multiple restaurants inside Level 8, an eye-catching production by Mark and Jonnie Houston. Maison Kasai weaves traditional teppanyaki elements of steel-top grilled meats and seafood with one of the best Benihana-inspired fried rice finishes anywhere. Expect plenty of opportunities to post Instagram gold.

The restaurant’s quirky ’70s-inspired decor keeps the vibe loose. Kwang Uh and Mina Park of Baroo fame opened Shiku inside Grand Central Market in 2021, with a menu of quality Korean home cooking at affordable prices. One can never have a bad meal here; just order the fried chicken or deep-fried pyogo mushrooms, or the dorisak of popular proteins like LA galbi, andong soy-braised chicken, or kimchi-braised pork belly. It’s some of the best fine dining that the Hamptons has to offer.

“Restoration” is the key word at SteelCraft Long Beach, where meals are shared on communal tables made from reclaimed wood and bike racks are formed from 95-percent recycled material. Each restaurant or bar in this outdoor food court operates out of repurposed metal shipping containers from the Port of L.A. While restaurants rolled out gradually, the space is now home to burger joint Hangry Belly; Belgian waffle specialist Waffle Love; classic Mexican-oriented La Taqueria and more.

There’s much to eat in the heart of Downtown LA — the official city center that spans from Bunker Hill to South Park and the Historic Core. The area caters to a mix of urban dwellers, businesses in the Financial District, and visitors to Crypto.com Arena, L.A. Live, Peacock Theater, and the L.A. The result is a colorful dining scene that includes upscale and affordable options, along with plenty of spots to help fuel big nights out. Here are 18 outstanding places to eat in Downtown Los Angeles. Very rarely is a meal presented to me and I think to myself, “How were they able to do this?

Smog City Brewery pours beer at a container as well, and cups of java can be ordered from Steelhead Coffee. Keep an eye out for events happening at SteelCraft, including live music and yoga and beer classes, and if you’re near Bellflower or Garden Grove, you can now find SteelCraft food hall sibling spots there, too. Enter the archway of this 1924 arcade-style shopping center and you’ll find a glass-roofed alleyway dotted with restaurants and shops. The crowds are still light—it’s no Grand Central Market competitor—but the food offerings are strong. Step into Garçons de Cafe, a wine bar and boutique that instantly transports you to Paris. LA’s most popular Taiwanese restaurant opened its Downtown location in 2022.

Executive Chef Michael Rozzi has put together a menu that is hard to beat and the restaurant is run by long-time manager, Carol Covell. I want to get to the food because that’s the real star of the show, but the people that work here are also. Steve and Dina Samson’s enduring Northern Italian restaurant continues to prepare some of the best, well-rounded cooking in the city. Rustic wood-fired dishes complement the incredible handmade pasta like the lobster risotto with mascarpone and English peas. It’s all served inside one of the most impressive high-ceiling dining rooms in the city. Sonoratown is easily one of the top taco spots in town, serving smoky grilled meats atop perfect flour tortillas in this busy Downtown shop.

This Historic Core gem is somewhat of a revelation for Thai food fans, serving everything from cold hand-pressed tofu, to gorgeous tom yum, green curry, and fried noodles. Check out the Thursday to Saturday seafood specials. Everyone is so fabulously service-oriented here and take their professions very seriously.

The caldo verde (the restaurant’s namesake dish) — arrives in a cauldron brimming with sausages, seafood, potatoes, and kale — comforts like few stews can. If time allows, sneak in an expertly made cocktail at Dahila Lounge next door. A few steps down the steep staircase takes guests to a different culinary corner at The 1770 House Tavern. Tucked away from the hubbub of nearby East Hampton Village, the Tavern is a refuge for hearty pub fare or a casual spot to enjoy 1770 House's fine dining. Walk through 4th Street Market and you might think that this food hall is on the small side. Take a closer look and you’ll find that there’s plenty packed into the Santa Ana gathering place, with over a dozen vendors serving everything from pan pizza to falafel to ice cream sandwiches. First, though, you need to stop by Alta Baja Market, a specialty food store and deli that highlights the flavors of California, Mexico and the American Southwest with dried peppers, baked goods, cheese plates and beyond. Then work your way around the food hall, stopping by the nationally recognized Burritos La Palma, Nashville chicken specialist the Golden Eatery and plenty of others. An outdoor patio hosts occasional bands, while Recess by Playground invites visitors to kick back with some craft beer or a glass of wine. The huge 24th-floor dining complex at Sendero exhibits chef Kevin Luzande’s varied influences, from the more casual seafood spot Corteza to the formal-leaning Argentine-style steakhouse Leña.

North American

For more than 250 years, The 1770 House has welcomed guests with hospitality and comfort, a tradition that continues to attract guests from around the world to the intimate Inn, steps from the heart of East Hampton Village. The venerable home, today a boutique hotel and restaurant, seamlessly integrates historic elegance with luxurious, modern amenities and first-class dining by Chef Michael Rozzi. Famed Phoenix chef Chris Bianco has taken a while to figure out his exact setup in Los Angeles, but it seems both the pizzeria and nearby Pane Bianco have settled into their respective rhythms. The pizzeria serves Bianco’s wood-fired pizzas with light Italian appetizers and sides, while Pane Bianco serves New York City-style slices, square slices, and sandwiches. Expect excellence all around, with simple but fresh ingredients prepared in a minimalist fashion. Downtown LA kiosk Holy Basil is serving some of the best Thai street food in the city.

Glendora Public Market

Here, Garcia starts the meal with a skillet of molten cheese and tomato, finishing with grilled picanha and shrimp. Consider the Exchange inside the Freehand hotel a sneaky Downtown hit. The intimate dining room serves Israeli and other Levantine-inflected dishes from talented chef Narita Santos, who isn’t afraid to pepper in global influences. The results are well-crafted, seasonally appropriate food that pops with flavor.

4th Street Market

Spacious second floor king bedroom (300 sq ft) with sitting area, original 18th century paneling, fireplace and 40” flat screen HDTV. LA restaurant veterans Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne have another hit on their hands with Caldo Verde. Located on the ground floor of the Proper Hotel, the restaurant explores the flavors of the Iberian Peninsula, particularly Portugal, while never losing its California essence.

The Original Farmers Market

However, it was not until 1770 when the home was converted into an inn that it gained its name and began an enduring reputation for warmth and welcome. In its many years, the inn has retained much of its original architecture and colonial charm. The steep wooden staircase, exposed ceiling beams and book-lined lounge with antique fireplace are a few of the elements that lend grace and style. The freshness, the quality, the delicate balance of flavors and spices, and the uniqueness of each dish, put things on a whole other level at the 1770 House.

Rodeo 39 Public Market

The rise of food halls across Southern California have changed how we dine. This long-standing Grand Central Market vendor specializing in pupusas fills the griddled Salvadoran staple with traditional ingredients like beans and cheese, the classic loroco and cheese, and a range of meats. Don’t sleep on the substantial breakfast plates or fried yucca topped with crispy chicharron. Stairs lead to second floor guestroom (170 sq ft) with a king bed or two twin beds. Private bathroom is located just outside the room.

Both offer incredible views of Downtown and beyond. Beef fans will love Leña’s various prime and wagyu offerings, while those looking for a balanced meal can expect polished starters. Try the wagyu beef carpaccio with black truffles or opt for chori-pan stuffed with chorizo, cauliflower escabeche, chimichurri, and aged cheddar.

Superb Downtown Los Angeles Restaurants

It’s a blend of the Silver Lake original location and owner Vivian Ku’s Joy in Highland Park, with a menu that features daikon rice cakes, fan tuan, thousand-layer pancakes, pan-fried buns, beef rolls, and lots of noodle and rice dishes. It’s the ideal neighborhood restaurant for South Park denizens with service from breakfast through dinner. Downtown LA’s Niku X is all about excess with a focus on yakiniku (Japanese grilled meats). Either will run a pretty penny, but expect extravagant and well-cooked meat from start to finish. Check out our guide to our favorite food halls in Los Angeles and Orange County—and start planning your next visit. Ground floor king bedroom (180 sq ft) with private entrance and garden views.

The setting of the restaurant is extraordinarily romantic, with gas two gas fireplaces roaring as you dine. Combine this with the romantic history of the building and an unbelievable menu, you have yourself a winner. Through a book-lined lounge, kept warm in winter months by a comforting fireplace, arriving guests are ushered into the intimate 40-seat main dining room. Spaciously arranged with antique wooden tables and high-back cushioned wicker chairs atop colorful oriental rugs, the ambiance allows for attentive service, privacy and focus on Chef Rozzi's distinctive and carefully prepared cuisine.

If you’re the type of person who turns up your nose at soft-centered Neapolitan pies, this New Haven-style pizza pop-up on the patio of Glendale’s Glen Arden Club just might make your ideal pizza. Crunchy, light and extremely crushable, the whole pies at Ozzy’s Apizza (pronounced “abeetz”) are a breath of fresh air in a new-school pizza scene dominated by Detroit-style squares and various styles of wood-fired thin crust pizzas. The classic tomato pie (the Liotta) sprinkled with parmesan cheese is a must-order for first-timers, but meatier, cheesier creations by Connecticut natives Chris Wallace and Craig Taylor are just as delicious for those seeking more oomph to their pizza. As of late, the duo have finally added New Haven’s iconic clam pizza (cheekily titled “You’re Welcome”) to their menu—a white pie dotted with littleneck clams, pecorino, oregano and olive oil. This Inglewood takeout and delivery operation serves a one-of-a-kind Detroitish-style square pizza made with “Hokkaidough,” a dairy- and egg-free pizza dough with a texture similar to Japanese milk bread.

If you're at the Highland Park location, enjoy your slices on the cute patio; if you're in Echo Park, take a seat on the wood blocks out front and take in the traffic along Sunset. There's also a newer takeout-only location in Glendora, with a Santa Monica location in the works for sometime in 2024. The browned edges resemble your typical grandma slice, but the plush foundation and pale golden bottom are what distinguish Schellz’s pizza from other square pizza pop-ups around town. Just note the pies here are on the pricey side—a large cheese pizza goes for $19.99—though they’re well worth the premium. I’ve tried every high-profile place slinging Detroit-style pizza in Los Angeles (Dtown Pizzeria, Emmy Squared, Pi LA—plus other non-specialists) and this underground West Adams pop-up is the best of the bunch.

The popular pick is the spicy calabrese tartufato, which sweetens the deal with black truffle honey, but you can’t go wrong with the trendy mortazza (mortadella with toasted pistachios) or a classic margherita. The napoli, which adds cheese and Sicilian anchovies to the otherwise vegan pinsa puttanesca. Former Mozza chef Matt Molina teamed up with Mozzaplex magnate Nancy Silverton and the Silverlake Wine crew for this Roman-style pizzeria, slinging scissors-sliced pies you pay for by the ounce. You can only find four or five varieties per night, but don’t let that worry you—they're all great, so order a little slice of each. (There's even a vegan option.) Don't skip the foccacia, though, which is great in every flavor; we're partial to the O.G., slick with olive oil and flecked with nothing but rosemary and sea salt.

For all the fancier meals in the Downtown neighborhood, we’d choose a pizza here first on any given day of the week. This latest addition to our menu has already become our customers’ favorite. It could be a pizza, pasta, soup/salad combo or even a dessert pizza. Pizza may not be for everyone, but I guarantee you will find something that you love on our menu.

Whenever we’re craving a hefty, classic pizza, this New York-inspired slice shop with locations across the city is here to, quite literally, deliver. Unlike many of the more upmarket pizzerias on this list, Prime Pizza offers both takeout and delivery across much of Los Angeles, with a fairly consistent, unfussy pizza that’s more than a cut above your standard chains. Dough that ferments for 24 hours, housemade sausage and extra options like thick Sicilian-style squares make Prime Pizza stand out—especially if you’re not the type of person to wait in line at a pop-up or chase down the latest hot new pizza. Plus, they offer pizza both whole and by the slice, even if it’s coming straight to your door.

Hovering around the $20 mark—dairy-free and cheese varieties aside—these pies don’t exactly come cheap, but discerning pizza fans will find plenty in the way of quality and flavor to justify the cost and effort involved. Once a mobile wood-fired pizza pop-up, now a permanent wood-fired pizza operation in Silver Lake, La Sorted’s pies pile fluffy, chewy, beautifully bubbled dough with everything from the classics (margheritas and pepps abound) to Italian sausage with kale and razor-thin garlic. (Owner Tommy Brockert has even run a Dodger-dog–inspired pie as a special, if you're really in the mood to get weird.) The centers are thin but steady, and perfectly light and just-crispy. Follow along on Instagram for specials, and be sure to try the mortadella foccaccia sandwich, one of the best sandwiches in the city. Like the name says, this no-frills Valley pizza shop is straight from New York City, where owner Anthony Zingaro’s family first opened up shop in 1966.

Apollonia’s Pizzeria

L’Antica Pizzeria Da Michele

There's also a newer takeout-only location in Glendora, with a Santa Monica location in the works for sometime in 2024. The process to get it might be a little convoluted for those used to the convenience of third-party delivery apps or Pizza Hut, but the phenomenal squares are worth the extra effort. It’s hard to imagine a fluffier-but-still-crispy, more textural pizza than Apollonia’s square slices, which look almost like fine art. The cheese gets baked along the edges until it’s standing up straight into the air; it provides a perfect foil to the gooey burrata plopped in the center; call the shop or check Instagram for square slices before you head in, as they’re not always available, and when they are, they go quickly. Of course, Apollonia’s also makes fantastic round pies, too, which arrive covered in everything from locally-made chorizo verde to duck-and-bacon sausage. If it’s your first visit, we believe it’s just about mandatory that you drizzle the spicy honey over whatever you pick. This cult-favorite pizza van pop-up now has a permanent home in Long Beach’s Belmont Heights, where heavenly circles of naturally leavened sourdough float out of the oven with astonishing speed.

Rare English charnel house can now be seen online Archaeology

charnel house

In the Spitalfields section of London, a 1999 archaeological dig uncovered a medieval vaulted charnel house, used until the seventeenth century. A Korean manufacturer, for example, sells natural jade funeral urns and funeral caskets for use in charnel houses. In 1940, the Blitz inflicted severe fire damage on St. Bride’s Church, leaving little more than a smoldering shell. Once efforts to rebuild Wren’s design got underway a decade later, the crowded burial chambers below were unexpectedly rediscovered by preparatory excavations in 1953. The charnel house is unique as it’s believed to be one of only two medieval charnel houses in England which still holds their original human remains in situ.

Chammünster Ossuary

The perspectives they espouse are connected to the Pharisaic tradition; as such, it is speculated that ossuaries were developed by elite members of the Pharisaic religious school before spreading to other sects. The space is said to have been sealed up for centuries and rediscovered around 1700 when a startled grave digger broke through the roof with his pick and tumbled into the chamber. Romantic Victorian theories about the bones, long since debunked by scholars, included that they were the dead of the English civil war battle of Naseby, fought eight miles away in 1645, or even Danes slaughtered in a great victory by Saxons. The film uses the idea of a charnel house in a more metaphorical sense.

The History of a Town and its People

However, because Catholic churches were among the most frequent users of charnel houses, many of the most noteworthy are scattered throughout areas of Europe where Catholic influence was strong at various times in history. Although ossuaries have existed in some countries for at least 3000 years, it was during the 16 th-18th centuries that the practice really took off. Overcrowded graveyards were becoming hazardous – in 1780 walls of basements near to Les Innocents cemetery in Paris collapsed under the weight of the overpacked mass graves – and even in smaller towns the problem could no longer be ignored. The bones could not be disposed of and the solution was to store them in ossuaries where they could be stacked and efficiently packed into a much smaller space than if they were left in coffins. The charnel house is home to over 1000 skeletons, with skulls neatly stacked up on top of one another.

The solution was so practical as an alternative to mass graves that they were often constructed to deal with the aftermath of plague and other disease outbreaks. Ossuaries such as the Ossuary of Saint-Maclou, Rouen were built specifically to house plague victims. Brno Ossuary, discovered in Czechia in 2001 is the second largest ossuary in Europe with 50,000 skeletons who largely died during outbreaks of cholera and the plague. Do Charnel Houses Still Exist?

While burying the dead is often an act of respect, it’s also a practical step to ensure bodies decompose in a proper setting, away from the living. About a year or so ago, after chatting frequently via social media, Noel asked for my number. We talked now and then over the phone, which I barely do with anyone anymore, where he explained to me his condition.

Either way, I feel it’s important to amplify antiwar voices coming out of Russia itself. Seeing this all play out over social media has been pretty demoralizing, I must say, as liberals and blue-checks of all stripes have added the Ukrainian flag to their username while Western tankies and rightwing nationalists added the Russian flag. Weirdly, wojak memes have been among the most poignant at expressing this impasse. In New York next week there will be a public discussion, the event description of which you can read below, on the conflict in Ukraine. This is part of a broader effort to gather contributions for an upcoming issue of Insurgent Notes, which is devoted to the topic and will explore the same questions. Check out the call for submissions and list of recommended readings there for more information.

Her skull was entered into the ossuary in 1995, the very last bone to be placed there. The town of Hallstatt looks like the kind of Austrian town that the Sound of Music might have been set in. The initial situation was largely unexpected, and in fact studies showed that people in Russia weren’t interested in the topic of Ukraine. At Ancient Origins, we believe that one of the most important fields of knowledge we can pursue as human beings is our beginnings. And while some people may seem content with the story as it stands, our view is that there exist countless mysteries, scientific anomalies and surprising artifacts that have yet to be discovered and explained. In the 1700s, the church began digging up corpses to make way for the newly dead. The bodies, which had been buried for only 10 to 15 years, were then stacked inside the charnel house. Lest this all sound overly callous to the memory of the dead, there is actually a charm to the whole affair that Hallstatt can’t seem to escape even with a room full of skulls. Tattoo stencils are key tools that help artists transfer intricate patterns onto the skin accurately.

You will need to search for a tattoo studio or tattoo artists ready to commit to the planning and making of this California-themed sleeve tattoo. If done precisely, the tattoo artist can bring the inked images to life. The idea of both kinds of paper is to transfer the design from regular paper to your skin. The second layer is a black sheet of carbon paper, and the top layer is a sheet where the transferred design will appear. You will need a thermographic transfer maker to apply the design from the paper to the top layer.

Utilizing printable tattoo outline stencils comes with various benefits. They assist tattoo artists or DIY enthusiasts in ensuring the design is both properly aligned and proportionate before the actual tattooing takes place. You can either design your own using graphic design software or take advantage of ready-made stencils found online or on specialized tattoo design platforms. These stencils are often available for download in formats like PDF or image files and can be printed easily on regular paper or dedicated tattoo stencil paper. Tattoo stencils are used to transfer the design from the regular paper to the body.

This sleeve design depicts the perfect California map with prominent city divisions, the Hollywood sign, a beach with palm trees, complete with a compass. For people who love California’s coastlines, coastline freeways and want them tattooed on their skin, this California arm sleeve tattoo is the piece for you. This tattoo shows the California freeway badge and the rocky coast alongside the beautiful sea and waves coloured exquisitely by the tattoo artist. This tattoo design will look good on your thighs or even your bicep. Customization also plays a significant role, allowing tattoo artists to tailor stencils to fit the client’s unique body contours or specific design preferences. The ability to customize stencils ensures that the final tattoo placement and composition align perfectly with the client’s vision, leading to greater satisfaction.

Place a blank piece of tracing paper on top of your completed tracing. Tape both down for security and then trace the design again, using stencil fluid or a stencil pen. But stencils can be also washed off with water and soap, just not from the first time. As you practice drawing and tattooing those professional designs, you’ll naturally learn how to create designs that have flow.

The Chart House concept was born on Independence Day in 1961, the brainchild of famed Hawaiian surfer Joey Cabell and U.S. The first location was modest, with just a few tables in a converted diner. However, two principles present in 1961 remain staples of every Chart House location – great food and equally impressive views. Today, Chart House restaurants overlook the coasts of both the Atlantic and the Pacific, and other scenic locations in between. And while we stretch from sea to shining sea, every location remains committed and specialized to its local community.

We are happy to assist you with all the details of your business function, wedding reception, rehearsal dinner, birthday celebration, anniversary party or other special event.
